How would you describe Zumba to a newbie?

Zumba is a dance fitness party class perfect for everybody and every body! Each Zumba class is a total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of feeling awesome each time you leave class. We mix low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Once the Latin and World rhythms take over, you’ll see why Zumba Fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise.

What got you interested in teaching Zumba?

I’ve been a lover of dance and fitness most of my life. I was a gymnast and dancer in high school and a dance enthusiast in my college years and beyond. I participated in plenty of group fitness classes throughout my life, and all but forgot about my dance roots until the ZUMBA craze took hold. I took my first ZUMBA class in 2009 & instantly fell in love again! It was so totally fun & exhilarating!

Every time I took a class, I had people tell me that I was the one they wanted to stand behind because they could follow me, and that I should teach! It took a bit of cajoling, but I took the plunge & became an instructor. I’ve been teaching since 2011 and I love, love, love it! I want to bring others the same joy, enthusiasm & excitement while helping them in their fitness journeys.

Besides teaching fitness classes, what else brings a smile to your face?

Do you know that adage – do something that scares you every day? Well, I’ve recently gotten into acting. I’ve been performing in little 10 minute plays for a few years now, and got challenged to audition for a full length play. It required singing which is about the scariest thing I’ve done in a very long time. Long story short, I made it into the ensemble and had an absolute blast. I hope I am fortunate enough to get cast in future shows.
