UpLift – Guided Fitness for Women opened their doors October 1, 2005. Jill Strand and Chris Radke are co-owners and have been close friends for over ten years. They are living examples of the extraordinary changes women can make in their appearance and health by stressing resistance training and sound nutrition.Both have lived active lives, and have always made regular exercise part of their routines. But the biggest changes, for the better, to their appearance and health came after focusing on resistance training ("lifting weights"). After being open for only a year, they had learned how and why resistance training benefits the female body. Eventually, their shared passion for understanding the dynamics behind this, and the importance of modern nutrition, led them to start a small fitness center dedicated to improving women's lives. After being open for about a year, they already have members who have reversed diagnoses of bone density loss, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol counts. There are members who have lost 40 pounds or more (slowly, in a sustainable manner), through the right kind of exercise and nutrition. Their world now centers around helping women understand that resistance training is crucial for their health and longevity. They want women to see that resistance training will not make them big and bulky, and to know that their bodies will respond to resistance by building stronger, denser bones and improving function of many organs and functions.They have dedicated themselves to spreading the word about resistance training, and really hope the benefits become known to the female population of Woodbury, whether any given woman becomes a member of our gym or not. They have also participated in community ed classes, for example, so that women and girls of all ages can discover this misunderstood form of exercise. Chris and Jill feel strongly that you can open a business that operates with the main goal of helping people, and that any success we have will come from doing the right things for the right reasons. |
